The other three I had to work at just a little using a flathead jewelers screwdriver. Three of the screws were easy to get out since the heads stick up and are easy to grab and unscrew with pliers. I have a T6 driver, but not a security one which accommodates a little post in the screw that basically prevents you from using a regular T6. One note on the install: It requires you to remove six T6 security screws.
Mac mini review late 2014 install#
I have to say, after a few weeks of using it, I don't think I've seen the color wheel once! I can definitely confirm the other reviews that this was easy to install and really did seem to breathe some new life into my old Mac-mini. I read reviews for others who installed this device with a 970 500GB SSD which gave me confidence to try it. Those aren't terribly expensive, but still seemed a gamble since I wasn't sure that was really going to fix it. The other problem though is I didn't want to replace it with something smaller so was looking at >=1TB SSD drives. I really don't need much out of this desktop so thought maybe replacing the 1TB HDD with an SSD drive could help. I really had a hard time bringing myself to purchase a new Mac-mini since it would have cost >$1k. Like most others, I found the computer had become nearly useless due to always having the spinning color wheel. I happened to come across this while looking at SSD drives for my late 2014 model Mac-mini.
